Quarantined: Fun Learning Activities for Young Kids at Home

Mother Reading a Story Book

Due to the pandemic, people all over the world have been in lockdown for months. During these challenging times, it can get hard for parents to keep their children occupied and continue building their educational skills. Mt. Elizabeth Academy understands that keeping kids engaged isn’t easy in times like this. We have compiled a list of five fun activities for you to enjoy with your kids that also offer great learning opportunities.

1. Create a Pretend Store

Are your kids missing going to the mall and shopping in stores? Why not bring the shop home? Take out a few clothes, toys, and other things and create a shop in a room. Assign your kids different roles to play – cashier, sales clerk, shopper – and create a fun shopping experience. This is a great way to teach them about handling money. Moreover, you can even do some spring cleaning of the closet while you are at it.

2. Learn Music

Order some basic musical instruments for kids and help them learn. You can even make the instruments at home, like shoebox guitar, to spark their interest in music. If your child is interested in a particular music instrument, then get them enrolled in an online music class and help them practice.

3. Start Gardening

There is so much that children can learn through gardening. It is more than just popping a seed in the soil and waiting for something to happen. It helps children learn about responsibility, science, the importance of eating healthily, etc. Not to mention, they will love getting a chance to play in the dirt! Gardening is also a great way to form a closer bond with your children.

4. Organize a Play

Create a play of their favorite story, fairy tale, or write a play together. Help them prepare a set and organize the play for the family. Talk to them about the characters and the story. Ask them how they think the play should go. This is a fun way to enhance their creativity and have a fun family night.

5. Try Bibliotherapy

Reading books is an excellent way of helping children deal with worries and fears during uncertain times. They might find it confusing and challenging to tackle emotions and significant changes happening nowadays. Pick up storybooks that deal with tough emotions or in which a character goes through major changes. Talk to them about how the character faced the problems and what lessons they learn. Reading about a character who faced challenges and came out victorious will assure them that things will get better.

Try out these activities with your kids to give them opportunities to learn and also to keep them occupied and entertained. With things slowly getting back to normal as they can be, people have also realized the significance of hygiene and sanitization. Our team is making every effort to keep our place spotless and have taken all the precautions to keep the children and staff safe and healthy.
